Gifts to the Film Studies Program at UBC ensure that today's Film Studies students have access to the resources that give them the best education possible. With the costs of education rising and the numbers of students growing, UBC has made a commitment to students that no qualified person be denied a UBC education based on financial ability to pay. Your gift would provide Film Studies students with the opportunity to pursue their passions, and take their achievements out into the world.

More than 9,000 titles in the UBC Visual Resource Centre

The film collection housed in the UBC Visual Resources Centre recently past the magic number 9000 – over nine thousand films on DVD, videotape, laser disk and 16mm film.

With movies from thirty-eight countries from around the world and with a special interest in the motion pictures of Canada (one-fifth of the films are Canadian), this unique collection offers a viewing and study service for students and faculty from across the campus, and occasionally from beyond.

From an 1895 film of a baby having breakfast to Atom Egoyan’s erotic thriller Chloe, from short films by UBC students to documentaries about filmmaking, the environment and world architecture, the collection has something of everything – and is adding more every day.

The collection forms the basis of UBC’s courses in Film Studies. It is widely used across the Faculty of Arts, and increasingly being discovered by those simply seeking an understanding and enjoyment of film.

The Visual Resources Centre is in room 206 of the Lasserre Building and is a joint venture of the Departments of Theatre & Film and Art History and Visual Art and Theory.
